Sorry I'm just getting to answer this. I saw your question on my Blackberry; but I can read things on that dreadful device, however, answering is another story; and the next thing you know, you can't find the post. Anyway, I am not looking for anything specific. Probably more towards episode discussions than fic. I like reading the fic, but I often would hesitate to critique anything when (a) I certainly can't do any better, since I can't write fiction, and (b) the author would be seeing any critical comments.
I kind of liked your memory list of the "favorites," to which I'd initially responded, but I don't know if that's a community, or just a general journal entry.
I feel as though I would like to start over, and discuss the shows the way I would have done when I was watching the series in the first place if I'd known anyone else that watched it besides my husband.
I guess I've just had the feeling of coming late to the party. I watched QAF from the first minute of the first episode; but I never read anything about it, or got involved in any boards, or anything like that ironically enough, until the series ended. I had missed Episode 512, and didn't want to watch 513 until I'd seen it. So I ended up on a downloading odyssey eventually managing to get the whole series on my computer, as well as various fan videos.
When I finally watched 513, it was past the time to have much discussion with my husband about it, and I ended up going on a board to see general comments. The next thing you know, I was going backwards, seeing things written from the beginning of the show and seeking out websites related to it. I made a comment to the owner of one site, comparing some things in my own life; and then wrote about it. She posted my story on her LJ, I opened up my own account to respond to comments, and so on and so forth. I eventually met LJ members in real life, and am still in touch with some.
I ended up drifting out of regular posting, and a lot of my original contacts have moved on, since they already did the fan thing. Now I know people who have seen the show, but they mostly saw the LOGO version--which is like watching a censored George Carlin show; too much left out. Plus, most of the people I've known who watched it were young gay men, and they aren't interested in the same aspects. I did manage to shock one, when he looked at my Zune, and saw some show highlights in their unedited versions. I thought he was going to have a stroke, he kept saying "oh my God, you have porn on your Ipod." Besides the fact that it isn't an IPOD, it's not exactly porn. Well, maybe soft porn.
Anyway, that's my long story, so where do you think I'd like to visit?
