I'm pretty sure I said this somewhere before but the title for A Beautiful Mess comes from a Jason Mraz song called A Beautiful Mess. Not song fic! Just fic inspired by song? Yes, let's say that. You can listen to the song here. This is the live version from his latest live CD/DVD and I had it in my head as I wrote.

I love this song. I love the lyrics and I think that they're well-suited for Luke and Reid, the last line being, "The wait was so worth it." I think that Luke's been through an incredible amount of soap shit in his life. Piles and piles of drama while other characters could manage to maintain five minutes of happiness around him. It eluded him. I thought that Noah was going to be his safe haven. I thought that Noah was going to be the man that Luke was waiting for. But that was three years of so many ups and downs. Their very brief ups lasted about two seconds while their downs lasted for days and weeks.

Finally, here comes Reid and finally, Luke can be happy.

So it's the song that I had in my head. I just kept imagining quiet moments between them. No major conflicts (yet) but just exploring that new relationship side to them and so totally fun to think of Luke as a doctor. It's such a great profession for him! He has the personality for it.
