Happy Birthday Randypants!

It is one Mr. Harrison's birthday today. Man doesn't look a day over twenty but he is now in his early thirties. Well, we're all still anticipating the multiple (NUMEROUS) convention reports from Paris. I'm giving everyone a day to come back from the convention and then I want to see nothing but posts with details. Everyone with me? Because back in the day, fandom did not fail. They had pictures, video, and extensive reports. Come on folks.
Um, in other news. Remember how I took my computer in for a repair just a couple of months ago? Well, guess what? I was using my laptop this morning as I usually do, sent my cousin an e-mail and then it shut down on me. It just shut down. There was no notice. I wasn't expecting it to happen and that caused me to go into complete panic mode.
I called Apple Support to get some help and after I got through with their troubleshoot techniques (that failed) their suggestion was to go to the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store. Since it is the weekend I didn't have much hope that they were going to have an appointment time for today or even tomorrow but I had to try. The Apple Care representative didn't have any available times so I just decided to go to the mall to go try my luck.
The entire mall was closed when I got there but I waited about twenty minutes in front of the Apple store and they opened the doors. I bum rushed to the Genius Bar and of course, no appointment, no help. I looked sad, pathetic, saying that I've only had my laptop for a year (and indeed, I have) and just got it repaired last month so one of the store representatives tried his troubleshooting technique. Again, nothing.
I thought that they were going to send me on my way but thankfully, he got someone at the Genius Bar to help me since there was no one else there but me. I'm probably going to have to pay to save the data that I haven't saved before but the point is, without a Genius Bar appointment I managed to get some help and now my laptop is in for its second repair in the past couple of months.
Makes me feel really anxious since I really do love Apple. I love it. It's aesthetically pleasing, it's easy to use, it has every program that I could ever want, really helps with video editing, has amazing graphics, and there are no viruses. But, I've only had it for a year and it's already gone through two major repairs? Not only is that a complete downgrade but it's completely aggravating.
Aside from that, Jason Mraz review from last night coming right up! Maybe I'll post it tomorrow since that'll be nablopomo day three.

Date: 2008-11-02 09:30 pm (UTC)Sorry about your computer.
I'm going to be looking into laptops soon - I like my Dell. Then, I like PCs. But I hear Apples are great, esp. if one needs a lot of graphic work.
Today, in honor of Randy, we are reviving a classic icon. Yeah Randy! No you are NOT Justin! Now if only you'd stop confusing me by going to QAF conventions!
OTOH, I miss Paris. I haven't been for almost 3 years. That's way too long. Plus, apparently, the euro is WAY down. Sux for europe, but on the other hand, I could use a vacation soon.

Date: 2008-11-02 11:26 pm (UTC)Thank you. Computer woes all around. And here I am on a desktop computer I bought at Costco 6 years ago. Other than the occasional system restarts, it hasn't given me too many problems. I just wish that Windows would work out their bugs so that I could get an HP.
I do highly recommend Apple for graphic work. Constantly saving is the key.
Woah, total classic icon! Doodles from way back in the day.
Sounds like you need to take a vacation to France! I hadn't known that the Euro was down. It does sound like a good time for a vacation. I wonder what air fare is like though.

Date: 2008-11-02 11:37 pm (UTC)WAY down, like from around $1.60 to $1.17 last week. Recession woes around the world.
I actually priced a trip to Paris the other week *whistles, not thinking about showing up for Paris!con, no not at all*, and the packages are pretty reasonable - I was looking at a three-nighter, and with r/t from NYC (Newark, probably), it came to about $1200 for a fairly decent hotel. Now I'm thinking Christmas, since there are some really good deals around then.

Date: 2008-11-03 02:31 am (UTC)Hahaha I should've done the same! Last minute trip to Paris! Next time I'll just cave in and vacation during Randy-Stockbridge time on a whim. That definitely doesn't seem too bad at all for round trip and hotel. You should definitely look into a nice, relaxing and fun trip.

Date: 2008-11-02 10:06 pm (UTC)That sucks about the laptop. Did it come with any kind of lemon policy in the warranty? I remember with my old laptop, if it needed extensive repairs more than three times they would give you a new computer of equal value for free.

Date: 2008-11-02 11:27 pm (UTC)Okay that really sounds like a good deal. I'm not really sure how Apple's warranty works. They may as well give me a new computer since there are too many problems with the one I have. I don't want to start bringing it in every month. I'm just going to have to wait and see what they say this time around.

Date: 2008-11-03 04:16 am (UTC)I took it to the apple store at least 4 weeks ago and they said they would order the parts then call me when they came in. I wait 3 weeks, don't hear from them, so I call them to see what the holdup is. Girl who answers the phone says a genius will call me back within 24 hrs. No one calls.
I get a message on my phone today from the store- some guy saying, "hi! I just wanted to follow up about repair to see how it went so we can get some feedback!" like as if the repair has already happened...
oof. I love apple but this blows.

Date: 2008-11-03 04:19 am (UTC)If you spent the extra bucks to get the extended warranty then it's def covered by apple care (I did and mine is even though it's 3+ years old! But it ends in march so I need to get on this repair...)

Date: 2008-11-03 04:39 am (UTC)Now that you told me that story that totally worries me. I didn't have any problems with it last time but you just never know. I do love Apple and all of their products but admittedly, they have some of the worst hardware ever.

Date: 2008-11-03 09:19 pm (UTC)Aw, that sucks about the laptop. Usually I hear only good things about Apple, hopefully the manage to fix it for good this time.

Date: 2008-11-04 04:23 am (UTC)It really, really does. I absolutely love Apple. I have no problems with any of the programs or its capabilities but because it's broken down on me twice in the past two months, it's made me weary. I still heart it though. I heart it so much.
