Welcome to episode three! I've raised some questions that I'd love some more insight into and of course these caps come with some pictures. All the caps are courtesy of KWAF. Thank you once again!

My recap partner [livejournal.com profile] sakesushimaki has a recap of episode two right here.

[livejournal.com profile] friday82 has the music of episode three right here.

So, I think that this is the first time that we’re introduced to a religious event in this series courtesy of Melanie Marcus. It establishes a faith based background that Gus will be raised in. Wonder what his father thinks about that! Hey Emmett, I didn’t know what a bris was either. It’s okay. I wouldn’t have thought that it was a brisket though.

Brian once again is a no show because “something came up” with Troy. Well, this character doesn’t have a name but he gets used again in a later episode … several later episodes. Queer as Folk was kind of known for reusing characters starting with this episode! We see the Rabbi again and we see man in gym again.

Hysterical moment of the episode? Emmett’s new friend Katsuo.

Katsuo: Joos?
Emmett: No. Juice (points to glass). Jews (points to the room).

What’s up with Michael telling him that what he said was about love after he heard the translation from Melanie? I know that it’s meant to be a joke but it just seemed cruel.

Justin: That’s all I was to him – a fuck.

First of all, this has to be Justin’s pool. Justin went to visit Molly for her birthday and I assume that that was in Justin’s backyard since it was Molly’s party. This is the same pool and yard that was in that scene in a later episode.

Daphne and Justin seem well suited for one another. They even indulge in their interests and rebellion together. They’re sharing a cigarette and Daphne reveals that she had a boyfriend last year. The fact that Justin didn’t even know that she had a boyfriend last year raises some questions. If they’re best friends, why did she never tell him? It’s different that he never told her outright that he was gay. Maybe he just assumed that she knew and didn’t have to tell her. So, maybe he and Daphne were fighting the previous summer and she broke up with him before he ever knew. Maybe they didn’t talk as much as they do now. Maybe they’re closer now than they were then. I feel like I need fic to make me feel better about all of this.

Love that she pushes him in the pool. I needed to include a cap of Justin’s flailing hilariousness.

Emmett faints at the thought of cutting off a tip of Gus’s penis. Michael finds out what the bris is and immediately calls Brian. Brian comes in and ruins the party because he doesn’t want someone changing who his son is. What do you guys think about this move? Lindsay and Melanie are the parents but Brian does want to be involved in Gus’s life. He even goes as far as to ruin a sacred religious ritual in Melanie’s family to be involved. I definitely think that that’s a moment of realization for him. It hits him in the diner that he did this for his son, wanting him to remain who he is because that’s who Brian is. That’s probably why he seems so melancholy at the diner.

Speaking of the diner – this is the first time that we see Debbie interacting with everyone in the group and she has a great rapport with all of them. We also see the beginning of the Wonderful World of Debbie’s Shirts.

I have nothing to say about Lindsay and Melanie’s argument. Lindsay loves Brian more than Melanie. That’s what Melanie says and it’s true. The end. I will say … why the fuck do these women not wear bras? I haven’t seen this much nipple through shirts on television since watching the later episodes of Friends.

No caps of this but Ted’s insecurity is palpable when he runs into Blake. What is this man doing hanging around this group of guys? I mean, really. How do you think that he met everyone? He seems older than them, completely insecure, but yet it somehow fits. Also, he doesn’t really let on in any way that he has a secret crush on Michael. They talk in the street, a serious conversation but they still appear as good friends, arms around one another. No evidence of that crush.

Another thing is they’re all walking down the street away from the diner, right? Brian, Emmett, and Katsuo are ahead of Ted and Michael. Ted and Michael stop to talk in the street. They turn around and head back to Woody’s (which is behind them at this point because they all walk right by it). Then, Brian and gang go to Woody’s to play pool. This all leads the question … where were they headed in the first place if they ended up backtracking to Woody’s?

Meanwhile, Daphne and Justin go to Liberty Avenue in which Daphne points, stares, and is loud. This embarrasses Justin and that interaction is hysterical.

Daphne: And stop acting like you’re so experienced.

Truer words have never been spoken, Daph.

“Where does Brian have a tattoo?”
“In a place you’ll never see.” – Uh … his finger?

Love Daphne’s reaction to seeing Brian for the first time. “That’s Brian? God, he’s so old! And skinny. You can do way better than that.” Not the usual reaction to Brian Kinney! Guess that means that Daphne’s not as easily impressed by his mystique. She’s so on to him before everyone. Daphne never stood for any of Brian’s shit and she looked out for Justin too … though she also went along with him to find Brian at Babylon.

“Leave him alone. He’s all right.” – “In fact, it’s kind of sweet.” – Brian Kinney, 103. This is the first and only time that he’s called Justin sweet in a round about way. Brian hearts his teenage stalker but this isn’t a surprise because Brian loves being the center of someone’s universe.

“Sweet?! I thought we got rid of him. I thought he was out of our lives.” – Michael still hates Justin.

Michael continues to act straight in front of Tracey and her group of friends. For someone who believes that there are only two kinds of straight people in the world, I wonder how he’s allowing Michael to get away with this straight acting, act. On the other hand, he is trying to make sure to be a complete pain in the ass by telling Tracey that Michael likes her.

What happened to Babylon’s memberships? Vic’s got a card that he gives to Justin to use. Bouncer even takes a look at it and allows the two under aged kids in. Guess Babylon just thought it was a hassle since they all just wandered in after this. Well, mostly.

Justin’s already ready to go but Daphne says, “What for? We just got here.” – Way to go Daphne! She’s probably excited by the lights, the people, the music, but she’s also encouraging to her BFF to go in and go get his man!

Tommy Hagar the name of Brian’s drug guy. No relation to Sammy?

Michael and Brian in the bathroom … you can just feel how much Michael wants Brian. Even though Brian’s high, I don’t think that he’s high enough to consciously fuck his best friend in a bathroom stall which makes me believe that he doesn’t want to do it at all. * nod *

Something I never noticed is when Daphne and Justin are moving through the crowd Justin says check out the stairs so they can see Brian and Brian says to check out the bar to look for the guy he lost at Woody’s.

“Dungeon Master Don who wants to mummify me. Have you noticed that the world’s getting weirder?” – I laff and laff. Thanks, Emmett. “How do you say tacky little cocksucker in Japanese?” lmao one more to Emmett.

Ted at the bar, that’s when his crush on Michael becomes evident as opposed to before on the street where it wasn’t as obvious. Also, Ted says Blake has crystal meth in his eye. Foreshadowing?

AHHHH! BAD BRIAN DANCING! WITH ARM MOVEMENTS! He better be whispering in their ears how he’s the best fuck ever and that’s how he lures them in and not with the bad dance moves. I mean, he’s hot, that’d reel me in but dancing? No.

Poor drugged out Ted. It’s definitely understandable that he’d be the most susceptible out of all of them when it comes to drugs. He had a very obvious crush on Blake, Blake went after him, offered to drug him out during sex, and he said yes. The imagine of his overdose is interwoven between images of Brian and Justin’s little song and dance. Why do you think this is? Is it showing a possible death between the possibility of Brian and Justin beginning their lives/new relationship with one another? I’m thinking, yes.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. Justin takes Daphne’s advice, makes Brian jealous, Brian can’t stand that these two guys are touching what he believes is his, and he immediately takes Justin away from them. Brian has Justin and that’s the end of it. Brian lifts him up proudly, gives him several kisses and licks, and it ends with them as the focus on the screen and Michael watching them on the dance floor.

In conclusion, Justin is fucking fearless and totally wins all but especially Brian. :)

Thank you for reading this week! Apologies for the tardiness. It's been a busy, busy week. I also have more and more nostalgia coming up soon because that's how I roll, yo.

Stop visually molesting unsuspecting old men.

lmao but that's obviously how she sells those paintings! I really don't understand the justification of them not wearing bras especially in the earlier episodes. It seems like such an insignificant thing in the bigger picture but all I can think now is that they wanted to interest the small number of straight males interested in the show and needed to show them tits or something.

Hahaha I know. I don't know what Daphne was thinking with the old comment. Brian certainly turned into her type after he complimented her and kissed her on the cheek. I really wish that we could've seen more Daphne in the later seasons. I don't even think anyone knew Justin was still living with her since he was over at Brian's so much in S4. At least she was there for the important moments in Justin's life during this series and I guess that's what matters.

I totally forgot about the Brits for the entire beginning of this show. Hmm. Now I have to check out the series to see if they did that with their Ted's death.

Woot! Thank you!
