amelialourdes: (qaf ; fic overload)

When people make gigantic spaces between their sentences or paragraphs, it makes me feel like I'm in school again and they're asking me to write my critiques or corrections between the lines (which I can't do since I'm on my computer). What's up with the giant spaces? Isn't one space enough?

What if I ...

typed like this?

Isn't that annoying?

Kthx.

:P

But in all seriousness, I agree with you. Huge spaces = nothx. I just usually do this

---

in between paragraphs where I'm changing the scene or something. Keeps things more readable, IMO.

That could be the result of someone using some older version of Word or something and then copying and pasting the fic onto LJ and then being too lazy to format/delete the extra spaces that sometimes appear in those instances.

That's pure laziness. I always work out the end result in plain ol' Notepad. Helps me include the html tags for those extra effects, like italics. ;)

I would think so but someone once told me that they did it intentionally because it helped to keep things in order. I mean ... what? Order for what? The paragraphs go one after the other so it's not like I'm going to get confused, lol. Totally agree with you though! I just don't think that if you're not willing to go through your fic to fix it up a little, then I'm just not going to read it ... and probably gonna hate on you a little for not editing. :) Oooohhhh mean. lol.

I totally agree, its ruined some good stories for me.

It has! My eyes feel like scanning down the entire page and not going on to the next sentence.

It's either too much space, or none at all. I can't stand when the entire fic has no spaces at all at appropriate intervals. It gives you this giant block of fic, that can sometimes be just too stressfull on the eyes. Oy.

It is! Where's the happy medium?? I see no spaces and a bunch of quotes everywhere that I can't follow or it's this spaced out crap that takes me back to high school. There's a pretty basic format for posting stuff. I wish people would adhere. :|

I think a complete other storyline just happened during the massive gaps in the original story.

Yes! That must be what has happened there.

I remember you mentioning this to a writer and her telling you that if you didn't like it, you didn't have to read her stories. Like that was the ONLY thing keeping you from her stories. LOL

(And I'm SO exhausted right now, but I will be replying to you tonight, oh yes I will.)

Yes! Exactly! Hahaha it's so true though. The space issues that I had with that one story in particular was only one thing on the laundry list of things that were wrong with her fic. :|

Hope you recover from the exhaustion and rest it up, bb!

Yay! It's an bad!fic-esque post. What a good way to start the day.

*Hugs you, cause it's all gonna be downhill from here*
Amy

(did ya notice I left a lot of space in there?)

Amy,

I did notice your

spaces.

I do wish I saw more good fic than bad. :)

Obviously you didn't realize the spaces are there to give you the time to ponder the immense significance of every line or paragraph.

;)

LOL! OMG. That was a good one. You're so right. I will consider this the next time that I glare at a too spacey fic.

:D I think I remember you trying to reason with an author about this once? I think her main argument was that the text would look bunched up if she conformed to the general spacing regulations.

I wonder if it's an attempt at setting themselves apart with cutting-edge formatting or just some discrepancy resulting from the fic being transferred from a different platform with different formatting settings?

Date: 2010-05-06 12:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amelialourdes.livejournal.com
She also used the, "If you don't like it, don't read it" argument that we love so much. :|

Either way, it unnecessary and my eyes do not appreciate it. A lot of people do this intentionally and then have gigantic font too to add insult to injury. I do not understand the giant font.
