WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?

No, I'm not even kidding you. I have no idea what that ending means. I'm seriously confused. Maybe Kimmel will clear some of this up but I'm doubting it.

So, was Sideways World purgatory or heaven? Did they all die in the original plane crash? This actually makes a little bit of sense since Aaron's there and he's a baby but he wouldn't have been a baby. He would be in Claire's stomach. I don't understand!

I can't believe we didn't get to see Kate die. I was hoping for it. But, no.

So, they're all dead. I still don't get it. Is this a Sixth Sense ending or something?

And if they were all dead to begin with, where the fuck are Michael and Walt? They couldn't figure out how to de-age Walt so they didn't even bother with them? What's up with that?

Oh. Another comparison is Titanic. So, Titanic?

One more edit. I know a lot of people are angry that it has a religious aim and I'm not that affected by it because I'm Catholic so it does lean toward my people, lol. But, they could've done without the Marys in front of the doors to make it a little more non-denominational. The creators have always said that it's not specific to one religion and they should've made that clear. If that aspect were pushed aside, would people have a problem with it? I don't know.

I'm also pretty sure that ATWT is gonna end this way with people going yay or nay Nuke and then people saying yay or nay Lure because that's what I'm seeing with all the Skate hate and Jate love. I'm a Sawyer/Juliet fan all the way.

Regardless, this is a show I've been with for 6 years. I never gave up on it and I never stopped watching. I've never really been as emotionally invested in it as I've been in other shows. But, I know that it's because it's been frustrating to watch at times and I needed answers and I never got them. So, it was hard to stick with it but it was still entertaining as hell. I know I'm going to be marathoning this week! Woot!

I love you Lost. I'll miss you.

Now what do I watch?!

So I'm sure that was your initial reaction but I'm glad you commented on my post saying you were content. :)

I'm not sure if you found your answers since posting but Sideways Word was purgatory and once they all gathered in the church they, like Christian said, "remember, let go, and move on." Also Christian told Jack that everything was real and thus including all the island hoopla. So no they didn't die in the original plane crash. And as for Aaron being there, since Claire did have the child on the island, he's alive and died one day in the real world. He's a baby, I guess all the Losties are at the age when they died on/left the island?? That's my take.

Michael and Walt, hmm, I think all the people in the church were very meaningful to Jack in someway since it was his funeral. They were also the most beloved by fans. I'm not sure about Libby and Penny...association by Hurley and Des? LOL.

I guess there's two ways of looking at it. Either they all died in the original plane crash, or all the island stuff was real and they all died at different times throughout the entire series, then met up again in the Sideways Universe Purgatory.... then went from there to heaven. I think the latter theory is what they were going for. Although it still doesn't explain WTF was up with that bizarre island. But I guess I didn't really expect them to answer that. How could they, really... it was just too far fetched. LOL. Still, a fitting ending for Lost IMHO.

The complaint I have heard about 'religion' was more that it was in a church with non-Christian symbols rather than either being honest that it was Christian and in a church or having them in a building that isn't a church. Granted one could argue that while the characters are not necessarily practicing Christians most would be more familiar and probably comfortable with Christian imagery than Islamic or Hindu imagery so what they see is a church.

People would have had a problem with any ending. There were too many mysteries. There was too much time for people to build up their own theories and explanations. There are too many different ships (and some 'conflict').

I actually liked the ending. What with.. Sawyer meeting up with Juliet again --- man that was sweet. Even if it was purgatory, their scene together, and the Jin/Sun/Juliet/Sawyer interaction actually made me cry a little. As for WTF happened, I'm leaning towards what pbanda says up there. That they didn't die in the original plane crash. Whatever happened on the island was real. They all died at different times, but their connection brought them together again. The sideways world was purgatory. And once they've found each other/accepted what had happened, they all moved on to the afterlife/heaven/whatever.

I was just plain thrilled for no Skate. Thank you, God.

Yes! I agree with the assessment I made in your journal and I'm pretty content with how everything went down. Now that I've had some extra time to digest everything, I'm even more satisfied with it ... although I won't lie. I'm going to be looking for some answers come blu-ray time.

Thank you! The last image that ABC decided to tack on became extremely confusing and in my first viewing state, I was completely confused. I guess the best time in Aaron's life was on that island too, lol. He must've had a really shitty life. Poor kid. I wonder if Claire ended up raising him since he was in her arms in the end. I'd like to think that she did and Kate ... who knows. Kate had extra mother duties? No idea.

Yes! I'd like to know how some people got on that extra special bus to heaven and other people got left off. :| At the very least, I would've figured that Mr. Eko would be there. He was very island connected. Work schedules are a bad excuse. I need my mythology to make some sense.

I was extremely confused by the footage that ABC decided to tack on at the end of the original plane and it's completely in pieces. So, that's what threw me for a loop. Apparently, that shot of the plane was added by ABC and isn't part of the finale at all. Stupid ABC. From what I understand, all the island stuff is real and the between world is Sideways World. Is that the conclusion that you came to? I agree with you though. It's a totally fitting ending for Lost and I expected them to answer nothing so at least I wasn't disappointed.

Ah. I can see the argument there. That made it very clear. I needed that clarity. I also believe that they chose a Church setting since it is what people are familiar with. There's an article ew.com that states that spirituality is sprinkled throughout the series so how they were unable to see it until the ending is kind of strange. I agree with that. I mean, Jack and Locke were always called The Man of Science and Locke was The Man of Faith. I thought that the religious tilt in that world was pretty apparent and some people say that it wasn't.

I agree. I think it's pretty simple in the end. You either liked it or you didn't and there are vocal people for both sides. I thought that it was a really appropriate ending for the series and I'm more than content with it.

I loved the ending! I got teary-eyed at all the same parts you did. I love that the second that Jin and Sun reconnected in Sideways World, they both spoke English. Oh man. I cracked up and got all misty. Here in the States, ABC decided to tack on this final image of the original plane on the island with all the debris and no survivors. So, that led to a lot of speculation afterward. There's an article that just came out today that said that that was ABC's decision and it wasn't part of the finale. So, I need to erase that image from my mind and just understand that Sideways World was purgatory. I completely agree with that.

YES. EXACTLY. I HATE SKATE. SULIET FOREVER.

I usually keep up with ack_ack's posts but I couldn't stand all the Skate lovers. Ugh. They did not like the ending, lol. Deal with it. Jate is fate.

I actually laughed and cheered and went WHOOPIE when Kate and Jack professed their love for each other. YES!!!!!!!

After that, it was only time... before I KNEW Juliet and Sawyer would reconnect. Their scene together.... I've watched it probably 10 times already (I only was able to finish watching the finale last night) and I love it every time. They got to go dutch for their coffee. Sigh.

What? What footage added by ABC? I don't remember seeing that. WTF. Maybe they played the original version on the Canadian channel? The last shot I saw was Jack lying in the jungle closing his eyes (dying) with the dog lying next to him. Basically a bookend to the first shot of the series where he's lying on the ground after the crash and opens his eyes.

Anyway, yes, that was my conclusion.

I heard that they didn't add that ridiculous last image to Canadian viewers! Ugh, ABC. It was just this beach footage over the credits and it showed a destroyed plane with all the debris around it. People were speculating that it was the original plane with no survivors and then they were thinking that it was the Ajira plane with Kate, etc. Turns out it was none of those things! It was just nostalgia footage that ABC tacked on at the end to confuse people. :| I did like the bookend shots of Jack opening and closing his eyes. :)
