oh my god, cracky tv is cracky.
Sep. 13th, 2010 10:23 pmAll right, guys. Who loves The Vampire Diaries. Raise your hands like Reid!
*raises hand*
That's right. I spent the entire. weekend. indulging myself in some intriguing television. Where the hell have I been? Although, I see that every episode hangs on a cliffhanger and part of me hates shows like that because you spend the next week just waiting and waiting for the next one. Now I'm on the first episode of Season Two like the rest of you and I'm like ... *waits*
Sigh. This is the sort of television that I wanted to do (still adapting the one I wanna do). This is the kind of drama (sans the actual sex part) that I used to love as a Young Teen. I loved those Fear Street, Christopher Pike series, and this show has that whole feel to it. I also noticed that the colors are really prominent. Thanks Marcos Siega for setting the bar! I was wondering what happened to the really great music video directors once music videos died. They all went to the CW!
Fun.
Anyone else watching or is in this fandom?

Need me some icons. Do not have any more room. :\ Conflicts.

BTW, I really like the other characters as well. I'm quite fond of Stefan and I love Elena like whoa.

Date: 2010-09-14 03:17 pm (UTC)Aww, Stefan. Just wanna wrap him up. At the same time, lovin' that hungry, need human blood NOW side. I mean, there's a reason that Katherine likes him best. I miss Kelly Hu though. :(( Elena reminds me of this soap actress and I'm still having a hard time moving past that but I love Katherine pretty hardcore. Strange how that works out, lol. Alaric's pretty interesting too. I keep waiting for Damon to try to kill him again but they seem to be some kind of team now, haha.

Date: 2010-09-14 06:02 am (UTC)Christopher Pike! Loved his stuff! Not so much a fan of R.L. Stine, but back in my late elementary school/early middle school days, I was all about Christopher Pike and Stephen King. I haven't read horror novels in years, but I've been sort of missing them lately.
I'd planned to indulge in Velvet Goldmine this weekend, but it didn't happen. Maybe this coming weekend . . . we'll see.

Date: 2010-09-14 02:57 pm (UTC)I liked RL Stine's teenager series even though I read Goosebumps and all of those. He definitely had a keen understanding of teenagers and angst. Christopher Pike did too but I think that even if he dealt with teenagers, they seemed a little more adult -- both worked for me! I used to love horror novels. Don't know why I stopped reading them. :\
Aw, I miss me some Velvet Goldmine. I noticed in the Vampire Diaries they used Placebo's Running Up That Hill somewhere in there. Made me want to listen to them.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!
That show is freaking awesome! I ♥ Damon like woah.
No really, I started watching because I read the books way back in the 90's when they first came out. I think I still have them way back in my closet. I was like let's see how they screw this up and to my surprise, they managed to make it way way better than the books.
It's weird, I've been a Damon fan since I was 14 but Ian brought that character to life. He's better than my wildest dreams.
I follow a couple of comms like

Date: 2010-09-14 03:00 pm (UTC)Damon. Rawr, seriously.
I was wondering when the books came out! ... and why this series isn't more popular than Twilight. :\ Well, the 90's did have their own vampire craze with Interview. But, I'm kinda glad that that dominated. So, you prefer the show to the books? Awesome. How closely would you say that they followed the storylines presented in the book?
I'm totally looking for guys to ship on the show. With the last episode it's Ian and the werewolf, Uncle Mason. I mean, he totally checked him out. He did, lol. That's my story. Thanks for the comm rec! I'll check it out. Aww, Matt Davis.

Date: 2010-09-14 03:59 pm (UTC)Some differences between the books and the TV show:
* Damon and Stefan where Italians from the Renaissance.
* Book Elena was a blonde and pretty self centered. I actually kinda hated her in the books. Book Bonnie was my favorite.
* Alaric was not the cool badass teacher that he is here.
* Katherine was spoiled German brat who wanted to kill the brothers since they left her! she wasn't related to Elena at all.
* Jeremy was actually Elena's baby sister Margarete.
* Bonnie was a bubbly redhead. Show Bonnie is actually more like a mix of book Bonnie and Meredith who didn't make it into the show.
* Book Tyler was an asshat and book Matt was a doormat. I really like what they did with those two on the show.
* Aunt Jenna was Aunt Judith and she wasn't as cool as Jenna.
*Carolyne was a brunet and Elena's rival not friend.
* Stefan lived in this creepy old boarding house owned by this weird little old lady witch. Damom didn't really live anywhere. Salvatore boarding house is way cooler and gorgeous.
There was no uncle John or as I call him uncle Snark. There was no Isobel, Elena wasn't adopted and her dead parents wheren't related to vampires at all.
All the history and lore of the town is show created too.

Date: 2010-09-14 04:37 pm (UTC)All this info clears up some things like Italians in the South. I mean, they were persecuted when they came to the States as immigrants in at the turn of the century so I was like, "How do people with the name Salvatore survive in the South?" But, I leave it to fiction since there are no noble Asian women running around in the South in 1864 either.
Uncle Snark/Sark, it all works, lol.
And the history and lore are made up too! Wow. They've really done a thorough job with it. I love stories like these with that historical/ancient vampire kind of background. And these vampires don't turn into dust like Buffy. If they're staked, they drop, and are still in their form. Totally cool.
Thank you for the info! I am very much intrigued.

Date: 2010-09-14 10:44 am (UTC)TVD is awsome, I love it!!!!! and yeah! I do think one of the best things it has in season 1 is episodes are totally cliffhanger, you just can't watch one and don't bite your fingernails!!!!!!!
Oh Damon, how deep and blue is your character!

Date: 2010-09-14 01:43 pm (UTC)Like I mentioned before, VD is my favourite show on TV right now. I thought it would be awful, but it's fantastic. Perfect casting from top to bottom, funny, well-paced and well-plotted writing and arcs. This show makes me do the retarded seal clap of joy at least once in every episode. I love it unabashedly! It's a complete delight.

Date: 2010-09-14 01:44 pm (UTC)I gotta say... I really dislike the VD. pretty actively, after seeing the first few eps. I know, it's a personal problem and I won't visit it on you besides saying that moody dramatic teenagers are dramatic. Bwah! I do like, who's the hot evil brother vamp guy? He was cool. Mostly because he seems to enjoy eating all the other characters. NOT LIKE THAT GUTTER BRAIN. Although I'm sure there's a fic or hundred out there exactly like that.

Date: 2010-09-14 03:13 pm (UTC)lol that was/is totally my crack element to the whole thing. It isn't the vampires, werewolves, and witches. It's the teen drama. As I watched it I kept thinking, "Do high school shows actually CHANGE?!" They don't. High school is still the most important time of your life, ever! Then there are the 25-30 year old teenagers, no adult supervision, knockin' vampire boots. Yeah. But, hot evil brother vamp is Ian Somerhalder from Lost. lmaolmaolmao I'm sure he does eat other characters. I love how they don't make vampires sparkly and one bite to the neck and you're done! It's messy and blood everywhere and ... pretty vampires. So, so good and cracky.

Date: 2010-09-14 07:25 pm (UTC)Okay, I do understand the hype, the show is new and shiny and pretty and it has vampires. People also seem to think it's well-written. But the female lead is JUST SO PERFECT WITHOUT EVEN TRYING, GUYS! And whenever her insta-love boyfriend appears on the screen I want to shout "Oh my god, nobody cares about your angst, you child stalker! Just starve yourself already!" The only characters I care about are the sassy Caroline (before she became a goody two shoes), Damon (before he became a lovesick puppy), Jenna and Alaric. I also think that the theme of vampires vs emotions and morality could die already and not come back no matter how much vampire blood it drank. There's nothing new to discover here.
That being said, I've watched the whole first season. I think I'll blame it on Damon.

Date: 2010-09-15 08:32 pm (UTC)It's weird because when I first watched it I thought, "Oh lol, this is going to be ridiculous" but then after about a month I started to get really into it. And now while I still totally think of it as a guilty pleasure, I actually think it's weirdly one of the better written shows on tv. I don't even know how that happened!
