There's been a lot of music talk happening today. So, tell me LJ friends, what was your very first concert?

Mine was Janet Jackson in February 1994 at Arco Arena in Sacramento. My second one was Whitney, same year. It was obviously the year of the R&B divas when I was 9 years old, haha.

In 1974 (I was 13) I saw James Taylor at Tanglewood in the Berkshires. My camp took our bunk, as the oldest.

Wow, that must've been great! That's a great musical atmosphere for James Taylor.

Bush, with Jesus Lizard as the opener, in 1997, at the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center. Second was Orgy in early 2001, with Alien Ant Farm, Spineshank, and some other band I don't remember as openers at Northern Lights outside of Albany.

I've been to more in the last 2-3 years than I have in my entire life, honestly.

Ooh. Bush is an awesome first show!

I feel like I really need to start writing these down. I always forget. Time for us to start a list!

My first concert was Luis Miguel when I was 10. It was the start of a long tradition of my BFF's dad and uncle taking us to see LM every time he came to TJ/San Diego. If it was in SD they'd just drop us off at the venue and then pick us up and take us to Denny's for pancakes after. We only stopped going cause she moved out of town 3 years ago. I miss her. :(

Aww, that sounded like such a fun tradition. I'm sorry that you can't do it anymore! Maybe she should come back and visit and then you guys should go to a show together. :)

1984, Scorpions, Love at First Sting Tour. Bon Jovi opened. I was 11 and the tiniest headbanger you could hope to see.

Is that CKB in your icon? Adorable.

And, aww! That sounds like quite the hair band tour. I'm a Bon Jovi fan so I imagine seeing them then would've been nuts in the craziest way.

The Beatles, 1964, in Seattle. The Beachboys a year later.

Don't laugh, I saw Twisted Sister in San Francisco in the 80s, "chaperoning" my 14-year-old nephew, who pretended he never saw me before in his life.

Yessss, chaperoning, uh huh.

Hee! Wow, The Beatles. Did you get to hear them? I hear the screaming fans were insane. And we know from crazy, yes/yes?

Yes, I heard them, or bits anyway - the screaming was non-stop. Of course, I was not screaming. (And if you believe that.....) I was in row 33. My mom was wonderful - she waited in the car during the "concert" and next day, drove me to the Edgewater, where the Beatles were staying, so I could hang out with the other maniacs. I got to see all 4 guys crowded into a black limo as they pulled away from the hotel. My biggest thrill until.....well, until about the year 2000!

Wow! Beatles, that must've been... loud, haha.

LOL! Oh, the life of a chaperone to a teen. I remember some douche was quizzing me once saying, "What do you know about hair bands?" WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT HAIR BANDS? He asked, "Who's the lead singer of Twisted Sister?" Yes, I know it's Dee. Geez.

The DeFranco Family. (Yes, I realize you have no idea who that is.) I was seven years old. All I remember is Tony, the little 12 yr old lead singer, asking for a volunteer to come up on stage -- and slinking down in my chair, thinking OMG DON'T PICK ME. Hah.

I'm like Morphy - the Beatles, 1966. In Vet's stadium in Philly. Me, my cousin and two friends took the subway down to South Philly. We were very young. It was very loud. They looked this <--> small. It was FANTASTIC!!!

The whole way down on the subway my cousin Daria (who was 13 at the time) talked about how stupid 'these girls' were to scream and cry all the time - they were being ridiculous. I sat next to her and the _whole_ concert tears were running down her face and the only word that ever came out of her mouth was 'Paul' over and over again in a blubbery whisper. My first taste of what the term fangirl actually means. LOL. I'll never forget it.

Couldn't tell you. Been seeing classical, jazz, folk concerts since infancy.

First big name/big venue pop/rock concert I recall: Billy Joel, 52nd Street US Tour, MSG, NY, NY, 12/78. Dad took me and a few friends for my birthday. Box seats. Awesome.
