In case you don't remember what this is, here are the two posts from last year: part one & part two.

amelialourdes: (qaf ; livejournal = crack)

As you all may know or not know, I was working on making screencaps for [livejournal.com profile] paddies for her website ages and ages ago. Well, when she stepped out of Qaf fandom, I just didn't feel like continuing the project. Then I realized that I did want to make screencaps because I was already making them for myself and we've never really collectively had a gallery of all the seasons. So, I've had this webserver sitting around and figured that it needed to be used for something. Therefore ...

Qafcaps.com

Yes. It's your very own Qaf caps site. Enjoy! All the information is on the splash page. I want to say a very, very, VERY special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rinmonsterer because I am completely inept when it comes to web stuff particularly the Coppermine gallery. So, thank you! <3

I add the episodes as I finish them. There was a huge chunk of 104 missing for some reason so I have to go back and redo part of that. The next three episodes will be up soon. My intent is to focus on all the characters on the show and even some of the extras, ha. I'm working on it all a little bit at a time but this is going to be a complete gallery. Just keep up with it. I'll have updates here regarding when the website is updated so no one misses anything. Again, enjoy and feel free to spread the word!

amelialourdes: (buffy ; ms summers)

Well, technically Buffy but since it's about Angel and Spike then I'll just say it. I'm doing a James Marsters interview and he said that Angel's all about lines and sophistication and Spike's more working class. Now how ... did that happen? Angel came from the Irish (haha) kind of small town background and Spike came from the upper class kind of crust. His inner circle (or the circle he attempted to include himself in) were all kind of posh and hoity-toity. Did anyone ever explain this? Ever? How did things reverse like that in the future where Spike was the one with the torn jeans and kind of biker personality and Angel was the clean cut one. I suppose it has to do with the good and evil aspect but still, you know.

I guess I just needed to take a little break from it before I wanted to start posting again. The break that I took wasn't even that long. It was probably all of last week and this weekend. But, I'm back in action and as my first priority in this little place we like to call fandom, I'm pimping.

Now we all heard this terrible rumor about fandom's demise, did we not? I remember I posted this fabulous (if I do say so myself) discussion about pet peeves in fanfic It was really more of a general thing but since I have the Qaf love, a lot of Qaf people chimed in. So, I know you guys exist and want to see fandom chugging on as we've been doing for ages and ages just like I do. All of that said ... there are still challenges and fun, wonderful things for fandom that need more participation (from viewers like you).

Remember that? We have some great fandom things to look forward to but especially during the holidays when everyone (mostly everyone) is feeling warm and fuzzy anyway. Don't you want to have someone gift you something? Don't you want to wake up and find that you have something fandom related in a community just waiting for you to open it?

Sign ups close on October 25th, 2009. That means that I have that much time to ask you to join. Please consider it. Remember how much fun the Valentine thing was? We have these little traditions in fandom that certainly make me feel good and I hope other people feel the same way. Please join! Sign up sheet is right here. It's just waiting for you to click on it. Click. That's all it takes. Let's all have a great holiday season this year fandom. :)

amelialourdes: (qaf ; fic addict simjustin)

I'm not a writer. I don't consider myself one. I'm not really good at it. I think once upon a time I had an imagination and creativity to write but I think that I've lost it. That said, I've always received pretty high grades when it came to English, grammar, phonics, reading comprehension, language, etc. I consistently wrote in college and graduated with a degree that is based on literary and visual analysis. I think that I have a pretty firm grasp on the English language. That said, when I see badly written fan fiction? I cringe.

Bad fic? It happens. For whatever reason, people make up what they make up without any regard or consideration of the personality of the characters that they're using. They write what they write without care or acknowledgment of their own terrible spelling and grammar. They don't bother with betas because a few fawning reviews means that they have fans and it doesn't matter what the writing looks like.

That bothers me. It bothers me. Every time someone spells something wrong and it's posted for all to see, it makes the angels cry (quote courtesy of Quinn from Glee). Someone on my flist has recently spoken a lot about the writing process and writing in fandoms and her perceptions are dead on. It's refreshing to find someone who's receptive to critique and commentary about her work. Of course, it wasn't always that way. It's never that way in the beginning. In the beginning, I imagine that people do think that they're good writers and for whatever reason (I blame fawning reviews with no critique) aren't receptive to criticism.

Fandom is supposed to be fun, yes? The stories are just stories. They're not up for Pulitzers or even national writing contests. I understand that. This is just a major, major, MAJOR pet peeve of mine that I want to address for myself and to share with anyone who may feel the same. Or! Feel differently. I'm open to both ideas. I'm not having fun if a large chunk of a story doesn't make sense. I sometimes try to look past the errors to just read the story itself but then it's bad characterization that gets to me.

So, if you're a writer or if you're an active reader, what in fandom fanfiction bothers you if you're bothered by anything at all? No specific fandom here. Any fandom at all. What will turn you off of a story? If you're a writer, why do you/would you not accept constructive criticism? Are you open to constructive criticism?

amelialourdes: (Default)

But I'm kind of excited about [livejournal.com profile] gaedhal's post with some Qaf fandom history. You know I love me some nostalgia so this is exciting. I'm going to have to dig into the memory banks for some things. If anyone's curious about former fandom, take a look at her latest post! Oh, the post is right here.

amelialourdes: (QAF NOSTALGIA ; FANDOM HUG)

I just realized that it's September and that means that it's been some five four years since Queer as Folk ended? Five years, yo. That's a long time. Since I've never been able to let it go then it feels like just yesterday to me. So, because of my inactivity at work, I'm going to have to jump on to that nostalgia bandwagon. Join me for a little while, will you?

- B/J spoilers in the Yahoo Groups (because they had awesome spoilers)
- Andrea's (sandstorm's) site with just the episode clips on them that we got to see ahead of time. Oh man. I was the worst spoiler virgin ever. As soon as I knew those clips were up then I ran to that site and was like, "I'll just look at one ... okay, two. Maybe all of them." I sucked.
- Everyone being secretive about spoiler tapes and yet for some reason like half of us had them. We never told anyone else though. We just knew that we had them and were keeping that to ourselves.
- And with that said ... [livejournal.com profile] gotfolk :)
- [livejournal.com profile] brianakinney and [livejournal.com profile] justintheartist? I was strangely addicted. I hated original characters but Michael Rappaport will always be Brog to me and Ashton Kutcher is Brian's cousin. Forgot his name though. :|
- The fact that Randall never finished The Quiet Men will forever kill me. Well, that and the Season Six he was writing. I shall miss. :(
- Is It May Yet?
- Did anyone go to the summer Babylon events? I went to Ancient Babylon up in Vancouver since you had to be 21 to get into the ones in the States and only 19 to go to the ones in Canada. I got a Qaf shirt there. I was also 19 that year.
- Randy in Wicked and becoming ridiculously obsessed with the musical. My favorite Elphaba is Eden.

Anyone got more?

Almost the six year "anniversary" of when I went to see Peter Paige in La Jolla and Jonathan B. at the premiere of his movie. Oh man. I went through some trauma that weekend. My first time (and last for Jonathan) ever seeing them both and Peter's play was scheduled on the same day as Jonathan's premiere. Thankfully, the playhouse allows you to exchange tickets so I just went on Saturday instead of Sunday. Or one of those weekend days. Crisis averted.

Qaf recap 107 and 109 coming up this weekend!

May I also add to the above "... loves Justin!" It just wouldn't fit with my theme. :|

Again, there are a million things I totally love about Ree and if you don't love her for her creations, her graphics, her doodles, then there's more. Yes, there's more. Ree's never lost her love for fandom or fandom squee particularly concerning Queer as Folk, Gale Howard Harold, and Queer as Folk's Randy Harrison. She's an equal squee opportunist when it comes to the above. Let's take a little trip down memory lane, shall we?

The Chronology of Ree. )

I've developed a new language of Ree.

Reecap: Ree's recaps on ... anything!
Reecon: Ree's icons made by Ree for me or icons that I just find to be so particularly Ree.
Reeism: Something says off-hand in a comment that is totally BRILLIANT. Brilliant defined as hilarious, hysterical, SOTRUEOMG, so true and you didn't realize it was true, totally agree.
Ree Reference Guide: This right here. Your reference guide to all things Ree (graphics, icons, doodles, pastede on hedz, etc)
Reeventures: Adventures in which Ree goes to an event that's Qaf alum related!

Edited to add: ... how amazing and kind that I think she is because she answers all of her comments. I mean, years and years past, you drop a line and when she gets back she'll answer. I mean, that's just dedication and replying to comments just shows that you've read what that person has said and you're acknowledging it. That's why we're in this large LJ landscape, is it not? So, for her to go through and answer her comments? I really admire that about her. ♥

And that's about it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REEFACE!
I ♥ YOU LOTS!

YOURS, AFACE

As I said, Ree joined Luke and Noah fandom and went in full force! When I discovered L/N, all I had to do was look back at her posts and not only was I entertained, I was all caught up and just as interested in the story. "Interested" is an understatement.

Ree first wrote about the pairing on Jan. 22, 2008. Then can the icons and there have been many of them.

RANDOM
The Daytime Emmy Award doodles that she did for the Luke and Noah fandom can be found here.

The thing about Ree is she is the most spoiler-free person I know. If there are spoilers on the 'net, then you keep them away from her. I've tried to do the spoiler-free thing but I am usually unsuccessful. Ree? She is made of STEEL or something else that makes you completely indestructible to the spoilers that roam the net. I didn't think it was possible but Ree has proven that it is possible. Therefore, I will forever remember the day that she willingly broke her spoiler resistance and Luke and Noah are the couple who made her do it. It is an event that is to be written in the reference guide. It happened on January 10, 2009.

Back to Part I
Forward to Part III

amelialourdes: (bday pic ; like spaghetti)

So, I started this little project because I wanted to look back and find some icons that I remember wanting to save again in [livejournal.com profile] url_girl's journal. It started out innocently enough. Then, I just kept going through icons and posts after posts of really memorable moments that I wanted to post about for nostalgia purposes. Finally, I just decided to turn it into a Ree Raid Project.

Fandom is an interesting place. Ultimately, fandom can be a very happy place and I think that Ree's journal is that happy place. She's posted icons, written stories, pastede on hedz that make everyone laugh. She's not selfish with her offerings, always willing to share something that she finds with everyone so that many can see what they may not be able to see where they are (example: Qaf alum activities but particularly Gale and Randy). So, in honor of her birthday and her five year anniversary here on LJ, we have the Ode to Ree.

Ree's first icons date back to August 16, 2004. Now, I've always loved her icons. Why? You know you have a great icon maker when they immediately catch your eye (in a good way). Look at her sense of humor:

Hysterical.

The Queer as Folk Fandom. Warning: VERY image heavy. )

So, I think that I'm all caught up on her icons for Queer as Folk anyway. You mean that there are more awesome icons that she does? You are correct my friends. When Ree ventured into the world of Luke and Noah on As the World Turns, I went all Scooby Doo on her. "Bzzzzuhhh?" Were my exact words if I remember correctly. But, what can I say, pretty, good looking men in a dramatic/sweet storyline on television? Count me in. Not only has she made wonderful icons for that fandom but also incredible recaps that are not only detailed but her observations are hee-larious. Coming up in Part II!

Part II
Part III

amelialourdes: (qaf ; fic overload)

Greetings all! Back again for part two of revisiting old Queer as Folk fan favorites. Okay, after giving it some thought this is called the Queer as Folk Nostalgia post series, right? Well, to be nostalgic it has to be fan fic of the past so I'm not going to rec anything that's currently happening in fandom. Everything posted here (from this post on) will be from the beginning of the show until the end (2005) and some change (2006 and maybe 2007 but that's stretching it).

Another little story to share. I went to the Book Soup signing in 2004 and standing there in line you have conversations with people, right? One of our first topics of conversation? Queer as Folk fanfiction. I remember one of the girls there, Sandy, told me that she loved Morpheus's fic and it was her favorite. I pretty much read everything that was out at the time and told her some of my favorites. See? Bonding over fanfic can make you great, fantastic friends. A lot of people who were in our fandom will certainly agree with that.

Now we're revisiting the authors that I looked over in the first post but have certainly not forgotten!

Edit (forgot this one). [livejournal.com profile] _alantie: I can't even manage to delete her from my flist. I just can't even do it. I refuse to believe she isn't out there in the internet world somewhere. I hope she is. But her contribution to fandom other than really great artistic icons (and her lovely handmade Christmas cards) was fanfic. I think that the most well known of them all and the most curious is the Untitled Straight!Brian Fic. It's exactly what it says it is. But just when you think you can't think of Brian as straight? Think again. You can read that right here here.

Get all your nostalgic fic here! )

Hope you enjoyed this one! Also, please let me know if any link isn't working, if you're an author and you want your fic taken down, and for the Qaf fans and former fans link your favorite fic that wasn't included, comment, discuss, talk about your memories!

Go back to part one!

amelialourdes: (bj ; save the last dance for me)

Who is the person in fandom who called the parking lot where Justin got hit "the parking lot of violent homophobia"? I laughed my ass off about five seconds ago just thinking about it. This was around 2004 and it may have been a TWoP recap but now I'm not too sure.

I thought about it because I'm reading my memories and it was a conversation that I had with my bestie. :)

amelialourdes: (icon ; Valentine's Day)

Wow. I am completely blown away by how many people spread the love for their flist. This is a tradition that I do hope will continue on in the future and I was more than happy to do it this year for everyone. Since I opted to cancel the recommended 10 people on your flist the love definitely poured in for more than 350 PEOPLE this year. Wow. Incredible! So, thanks for letting me do this and have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

The Valentine's Day icon provided by the very talented [livejournal.com profile] kinnetik_vision. If you feel like using some Valentine's Day icons today hers can be found here. The graphic above was made by me! And since there are so many people I've split the post into two parts. The other one coming up!

Edit: Official count 402 people! Way to go!

List, part one. )

amelialourdes: (bj ; FACEPALM)

Well, all entries are in and accounted for! No more e-mails as of right now.

Everything's almost up and ready to go. As I cannot keep my eyes open any longer I'm going to have to leave the rest of the formatting until tomorrow. That's all. Just a little cut and paste here and there. So, stay tuned to my journal tomorrow for Valentine's Day Extravaganza 2009! The response was really overwhelming and glad to see tons of names on the list. :)
