Why do people f-lock their fanfic???

What's the point of writing fanfic and then not sharing it. Because I take asking someone to friend you just to read your fanfic the same as not sharing it.

I do actually come across some worthy contenders every now and then, but they tend to be people who're transitioning from some other fandom into QAF, are not that popular.... we need to reel them in. The other day I found this amazing fic written for one of the challenge comms.... but that damned comm is friends-locked. I tried contacting the author, asking if an unlocked version was available somewhere, because I wanted to rec it at my comm, but didn't hear anything back.

Which is kinda what prompted my above post. But not really.

I don't know! I thought the point of fanfiction is to share your fiction with other fans. If you're keeping it locked up just to get people to friend your journal and you're locking entries, it defeats the purpose!

I couldn't agree more! I find that so annoying. I've actually done that recently, ask to be friended to read fic, and then I haven't even read anything in that journal. I sometimes really don't understand fandom.

I love B/J fics, no doubt about that.

However, this morning I've read four that left me shaking my head.

I don't like them when I'm finished with the story and the words never matched the characters - at all.

Recommendations? Right now, I am a sucker for post 513 fics....HELP me....Pretty please.

Oh same here, I only read it a few weeks ago after a long period of not reading any QaF fiction. It was so rarely that I found anything I liked that I have simply given up on actively looking for it.

Which means I am not the person to rec QaF stuff, unfortunately.

Re: Flocking fic. (Since other people's topics are all I'm thinking about right now)

I find it extremely annoying, but actually have a filter for this. The best part about it though is that these people ALWAYS swear they're not doing it to build up their flist. It's always some strange excuse about wanting to know who is reading their fic. Why they need to know of EVERY person reading their fic? I'm not sure.

Regardless, I filter them out of reading any of my friends only entries. I don't think wanting to read your publicly advertised but locked up fic is reason enough for you to read about my personal life, so instead of ever posting anything strictly to "friends", I post it to my "x (minus fic)" filter. That way, we both get what we want. I get to read the fic, and they get to... know that I'm reading it. Nothing more, nothing less.
